Paris: Mime Class

My mime class was amazing. I studied at the Ecole Internationale de Mime Corporel Dramatique. I found the course through Airbnb Experiences. I knew it would be an experience, but I had no idea I would enjoy it so much. Ivan and Natalie who taught the class (private for me since no one else signed up the day I attended) were amazing. Natalie speaks English and is able to translate for anyone that does not speak French. Ivan is a fun and patient teacher. Mime I found to be a combination of dance and drama, two of my passions. We talked a lot about weight changes and isolations just as you might in a dance class. During the break, they told me about the history of mime in Paris. Mime probably originated through comedie dell’arte and so has been in Paris for hundreds of hears. I learned a piece performed by Jean Gaspard Batiste Deburau who created the character Pierrot. Finally, Marcel Marceau helped start the modern branch of mime in Paris. Today, performers come from around the world to study the art of mime in Paris.
